Butterflies and Moths in the UK and Ireland 30

I spent a little bit of time mapping some beautiful butterfly images from Flickr to show the geographical spread from around the the UK and Ireland. Feel free to add to it if you'd like- it's an example to show how wonderful wildlife maps could be!

Sensational Butterflies

Jul 17 2011

Shots of the 'exhibits' in Sensational Butterflies, a summer exhibition at the Natural History Museum; butterflies are brought into a hothouse environment and fly about, the attendees can walk among them. The butterflies have been imported from Africa, southeast Asia and North and South America, they will lay eggs that will hatch more butterflies. This runs 12 April until 11 September. The Natural History Museum forms part of 'Albertopolis' (a complex of buildings including the V&A, Science Museum, Imperial College, Albert Hall and Albert Memorial, to name but a few). The NMH itself grew from a collection belonging to Sir Hans Sloane. The current building came about in the mid-nineteenth century with the purchase of land in South Kensington, and an architectural competition in 1864 (won by Richard Waterhouse); work began in 1873, completed in 1880, and the museum opened in 1881.
